![]() Wow, like twitter but more conversational -> I’m drinking from a fire hose -> this is too much, I’m out! Why would I want to tell people that I’m brushing my teeth? This is like facebook updates without Facebook -> But Claudia seems to think there is something to this -> Wow, these teachers are sharing great links -> I can’t miss a tweet, need to read them all -> I’m drinking from a fire hose, this is too much -> hey, I can narrow this by following a list in Tweetdeck -> and hey, I can follow a hashtag to focus this even more -> I can go away and when I come back, my network will still be there -> This is better than my RSS feed -> If I miss something in my RSS feed, and it is good, it will probably get back to me via twitter. Start blogging -> I have nothing to say -> I should really write a post -> I actually want to write a post -> I need to blog about this -> I get to reflect out loud and people give me feedback -> I can follow others in an RSS feed -> I need to read everything -> ‘You have 1,000+ unread items in your reader’ -> I’m drinking from a fire hose, this is too much -> I just read items my friends in Google Reader have ‘stared’ (highlighted) -> I only read from my RSS on my phone, when I have a few minutes, and the 1,000+ unread items don’t bother me. but first I’d like to share some of my personal life-cycles of some tools I’ve used. Since then I’ve made a shift… and I’ll share a metaphor that exemplifies that shift in a bit…. The BackgroundĪ couple years ago this long of a gap in my digital presence would have driven me crazy! I would have considered a week-long haitus from my network to be an eternity. ![]() But I have a huge learning curve that I’m working on and that has continued my tendency to be unplugged. I love my job as Vice Principal of Open Learning with the Learning Innovations Network Coquitlam (LINC). Then I was truly unplugged on a trip to England and France, then I started work immediately upon return. First I was busy with my move from China back to BC, Canada. Stay well.I’ve been very unplugged for a few months. Will post some pictures of campus and the dorm room soon. Well I need to eat something before my stomach eats itself. My new home has become Taylor Hall(the 24/7 study hall) and the anatomy lab. After dinner I will get back to studying for the rest of the night. Afterwards I relaxed a little and I am now about to make some dinner. After that I caught the bus back to campus and went to the anatomy lab to study some bones and joints and things of that nature. Today I woke up around 7:30, spoke with Em and then went to the beach for about 2.5 hrs, where I studied flashcards the entire time, and then went food shopping. I will mainly be posting on Sat and Sun to let you all know how my week has been going, anything interesting I did. So as far as posting during the week, you can forget about it. Its different having to study for 3 hrs a night just to comprehend what you have learned that day, and then on top of that skimming ahead to have an idea of what is going to be lectured on tomorrow. When I get back I make something to eat, shower and hit the books for another 3 hrs or so. Then after class I try to go for a run, just to get off campus and clear my head. For now I am doing my best to keep up with the material and trying to prepare for the first quiz on Wednesday.Ĭlasses usually go from about 9am-5pm with a 1 hr break at noon. I suspect that in time I will work something out. ![]() I need a game plan at all times, so for the past few days I have been trying to work out a way to structure all of the information that he provides us with. This may work for some but for myself I am a very structured learner. However, he is all over the place, he seems to lecture on whatever comes to mind at a given moment. ![]() The teacher is great, he believes in teaching us all of the clinically important aspects of anatomy, and not wasting brain space on facts that will almost never be relevant. The one that is not structured is Anatomy. For the most part my courses are pretty well structured and can be followed pretty easily, not to say the material is easy, but its well organized. I think the hardest part will be just getting used to the fact that you will never remember all of the information that is presented to you. The best analogy I can give is imagine trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose. It seems that the amount of information that is thrown at us in one day is equal to a weeks worth in undergrad. To say the course load is overwhelming would be an understatement. It has been a few days since I last posted and that is entirely due to CLASS! I have officially made it through my first week of vet school.
